Michael Catron, editor of this first edition of the Amazing Heroes, has a long writing career. He was born in 1954 and attended school at the University of Maryland. From 1977 to 1979, he worked alongside Mike Gold as a public relations assistant at DC Comics. Then, in 1979, he began working on Thor at Marvel Comics. At the same time, he worked for the Comics Journal from 1976 to 1985, taking on roles as editor, circulator, contributor, co-publisher, and writer. He also worked for Fantagraphics Books during this time span, assuming the role as president and co-owner in 1985. Then, from 1985 to 1994/98, he worked at Apple Comics as a writer and publisher. In addition to working on comics, Michael Catron was a part of several other writing projects. He was an editor at Sounds Five in the late 1970s, a publisher for Portfolio: The Lost Frankenstein, a publisher for the US Army Manual: Winning in the Desert 1991 through his time at Apple Comics, and wrote short stories in Starlog Magazine. In regards to Amazing Heroes, Michael Catron was the first editor and was Fantagrapics’ head of promotion and circulation. But, even though this series ran for a total of 204 issues between 1981 and 1992, he left the company after Issue 6, making Kim Thompson from the Comics Journal the new editor. But, after a period of absence, he decided to rejoin his Fantagraphics team in 2012; and, even though he was the co-founder of the company, he had to go through the hiring process with them again, though he was quickly rehired. He has now taken over as editor for a handful of different books and is adjusting to the learning curve that comes with working for the comic book industry in such a different era.
