Fantagraphics Books, publisher of this issue of the Amazing Heroes comic series, came together in 1976 after publishing a magazine called The Comics Journal, a magazine that spoke out against and harshly criticized the comic book industry for producing content that was at most mediocre. Because they were tired of this continuing lack of quality production, in 1982, the creators of this magazine decided to start their own production company, thus creating Fantagraphics Books. Their first published piece was titled “Love and Rockets” by Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez, and they have continued to publish well-known works ever since. This company has attained international renown and has received positive comments from The New York Times, TIME, Publishers Weekly, Wired, and several other companies. By taking the leap and cementing itself into the comic book industry, Fantagraphics Books has established itself as a highly-prestigious publishing firm. Editor Kevin Dooley heads the editorial staff for Issue 141 of the Amazing Heroes collection. He has been involved in the creation of Aquaman, and in creating this character, was determined to do everything he could to bring the fans’ visions of this character to life. He gives a lot of credit to the artists, colorists, and letterers, who he believed all used their own experiences and styles to the table and played a major role in Aquaman’s final creation. Because of his expertise and editing experience at DC, Dooley was hired to become an editor of the Amazing Heroes comic series. He and Stan Lee exchanged letters to each other, which demonstrated their strong bond with each other. Thus, Dooley has proven that he has the expertise and sensitivity to serve as the editor of a comic book issue focused on the importance of women in comics. After all, the representation of the created female comic book characters begins with the staff who creates them.
